“A Heart Without Borders: Embracing Life’s Journey”

A heart without borders… the words feel so right. To me, they denote the ability to live with and open, embracing and free heart; a place that allows you to function without hatred, judgment, discrimination, prejudice and control. It means to have the ability and the grace to see yourself in every living being. To know that what makes your life beautiful probably does the same for another, to not ask of someone what you would never do yourself, to know that what hurts you hurts the other, to not function out of hatred, greed and the need for superiority.

In a world that can sometimes feel a little overwhelming, a little confusing, a little to fast, it is easy to slip into the race to be heard, felt and validated. And towards this, people priortise money over values and wellbeing, status and power over humility and humaneness, fame and recognition over the kindness and oneness. It is often very late, if it all, that people understand the transitional nature of life, and how in being identified so strongly with the ‘I’, they have lost precious moments of love, healing, understanding and wonder.

In an edition that celebrates travel, we asked people what these journeys mean to them. Most answers tell us that travelling and exploration has made them better human beings. In being amidst nature, in being in situations that they have little control over, they have understood themselves better. They talk about the grandeur of nature and how we are just a speck in the scheme of an ever-evolving life. We can believe that we know better, but do we? For a true traveller, it is not so much the destination that they tick off their list of exploration but the journey itself… the searching, the learning, the knowing, the evolving. For a true traveller, every journey is a journey of the heart; it is a way to connect with the scaredness of your own heart.

As we come to the close of another year, I wish all our readers to never lose their ability to wonder… to explore and to enrich their lives, to have and hold a heart without borders.
