On March 12, Moti Devi Smriti Kendra hosted a programme featuring a book launch, a mini documentary screening and the honouring of inspirational women from diverse sectors, which was organised in Kathmandu to mark International Women’s Day. The event was organised under the leadership of its chairman, Bagmati Province’s former Chief Minister Astalaxmi Shakya, with former President Bidhya Devi Bhandari as the chief guest.
After the honouring of all the women featured in the book ‘प्रेरणादायी महिलाहरू’, the programme formally began with the screening of a mini documentary formally opened by Annapurna Kunwar, marking the start of the commemorative event that celebrated women’s achievements and contributions to society. The documentary highlighted the life, contributions and legacy associated with the women celebrated in ‘प्रेरणादायी महिलाहरू’.
Addressing the gathering, speakers emphasised the importance of recognising the role of women across social, political, cultural and community sectors. The programme aimed to honour women who have made notable contributions in their respective fields while inspiring younger generations to pursue leadership and service.
During the event, a number of women were felicitated for their contributions and dedication. Those honoured included Shashi Shrestha, Pampha Bhusal, Santwana Manavi, Goma Devkota, Annapurna Kunwar, Shanti Chadha, Jamuna Shiwakoti, Sushila Shrestha, Mina Thami, Sita Giri, Lochana Adhikari, Tuka Hamal, Uma Hamal, Gaura Prasai, Radha Timilsina, Bijaya Ghimire,
Nandakali Chapagain, Devkala Rai, Sulochana Shrestha, Tsering Yangji Sherpa, Gokuli Kumari Regmi, Bishnu Kumari Limbu, Sita Poudel, Mina Rai, Bandana Thapaliya, Devi Acharya, Mithila Yadav and Bishnu Kumari Limbu.
The event, since its start, has become a way to acknowledge the contributions of women who have worked tirelessly in various sectors while also promoting gender equality and empowerment.
The event concluded with reflections on the importance of collective efforts to strengthen women’s participation and leadership in all spheres of society, in line with the spirit of International Women’s Day.
