Celebration of International Day of Islamic Arts in Nepal

The International Day of Islamic Art was proclaimed at the 40th session of the UNESCO General Conference in 2019 and takes place every year on 18 November. It aims to raise awareness of past and contemporary artistic expressions of Islam, and the contribution of culture through Islamic Art to civilisation. This year, The Mother Foundation organised the international conference on international Islamic arts and architecture: tracing influence in Nepal and International exhibition of Arabic calligraphy was held at Nepal Academy of Fine Arts.

“Islamic Art has played global civilisation & it produces a civilised dialogue between different cultures. Cultural harmony connects the people from different background for positive transformation,” said Dr Tabassum Siddiqui, President, The Mother Foundation.

The worldwide celebration of the International Day of Islamic Art not only encourages the appreciation of Islamic art, but inspired other artistic movements. “It also contributes to cultural diversity, freedom of expression, protection of cultural heritage and inter-cultural dialogue. Marking the Day is also a way to foster tolerance between peoples and support cultural rapprochement, which is possible through the power of arts,” Tabassum added.

Islamic Arts covers a range of artistic fields including architecture, calligraphy, painting, glass & textiles among other arts.
