YALA YATRA: Walking, Working, Worshipping Art Exhibition by Peter Makela at Gallery MCUBE
As part of the AIR_MCUBE International Artists’ Residence 2025 Nepal, Manish Lal Shrestha curated another exhibition featuring artist, Peter Makela who is an acclaimed artist and Edgewood University professor, a 2022 Fulbright researcher in Nepal, and has exhibited globally, including a major solo show at Patan Museum. His work is held in notable collections like Johns Hopkins University. His artwork in this exhibition shows the artistic journey shaped during his month-long residency in Nepal. “My connection to Dharma and Nepal has happened syncretistical and magically,” says Peter describing how his relationship with Nepal influences his art. While living in New York in 2013 he began practicing bhajans but knew nothing about Nepal at that time. A coffee shop near his apartment was selling raffle tickets for $20 offering a free plane ride and food for Nepal which Peter bought and had forgotten about. After a week he had won it, leading to now making multiple trips to Nepal bringing his art and passion to share with the Nepali people.
