Zonta Club of Kathmandu holds event to mark UN campaign to end VAW

KATHMANDU: Zonta Club of Kathmandu today organised an event to mark the international campaign of the United Nations’ ’16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence’ from November 25 to December 10, under the global theme: “Orange the World: End Violence against Women Now!”

ZONTA has released four awareness videos that touch upon subjects such as sexual harassment at the workplace and in public spaces, child marriage, etc. The videos have taken the slogan of “kahile kahin hoina, kahile pani hunna”.

Seema Golchha, President of Zonta Club Kathmandu, has said that it is important to intensify efforts against gender-based violence (GBV) especially as the pandemic has seen a rise in the number of incidents. She demanded stronger punishment for perpetrators of rape.

Mohna Ansari, lawyer and human rights activist emphasised the need for women to be economically independent to fight violence and discrimination.
