Summer’s here and it’s a great time to amp up your fitness routine or to begin one. Whether you are indoor exercise person or an outdoor adventurer, make the most of this summer to get fit, healthy and strong. The days are long and people are generally more active during spring and summer, so here’s your chance to conquer that workout routine you always wanted to but haven’t tried.
Being in the morning sunlight can offer you the benefits of Vitamin D and boost your mood. It’s also a great time to indulge in outdoor activities like cycling, swimming, running and hiking, or taking up a sport. If you worry about the air or traffic, it’s probably best to hit the gym with a workout partner or by yourself. Being physically active with friends and family also offers you greater bonding opportunities.
There are plenty of classes on offer around town from cardio kickboxing, mixed martial arts, fightshape to zumba, aerobics and yoga. Group fitness classes create workout accountability and are a great way to make new friends and challenge yourself to push harder. Pick something you really enjoy as consistency is the key to achieving your fitness goals.
To get the most out of your workout and to avoid boredom, mix high and low impact workouts. This will also help you improve performance and add range to your fitness routine. After high impact boxing sessions, a day of yoga stretches and breathing exercises will help create balance.
Always set goals. I cannot emphasize enough on the importance of setting goals. Having a goal makes your workout more meaningful. It also allows you to work at a certain competitive level and creates a road map for where you want to be next.
Wear sunscreen and stay hydrated! Eat fresh and nutritious foods that are well balanced. Meditate for few minutes every day. Above all, commit to exercise with joy. Your body and mind will thank you for it.
