As human beings who have the privilege to walk and experience this planet, it must be our goal to live to our highest potential in all we do. Most often, when people are in the last leg of their journey of life, they reflect on the things that they wish they had done, or done better.
As we come to the end of another year, I find myself reflecting on my journey this past year… the things I set out to do, the things I did, and those that are left undone. Time, I know, is not promised to any one of us, and I have made it my purpose to live each day to the fullest I can. Some days, I can’t and I accept that too, with grace and a thankful heart that it must be what it is.
In this past year that was filled with challenges and uncertainties, it became even more important for me to find a greater meaning to my life, to make a lasting contribution where I could, and to enjoy and explore this journey with greater intensity before it became too late. I also understood that it didn’t mean that I make dramatic changes to my life, it just meant that I live with deeper awareness and sense of purpose.
When you decide to do something with single minded purpose, somewhere in your heart and head you must be prepared to face criticism and disdain as you will the applause and accolades that come with work well done. I learnt that when that happens, don’t be hard on yourself.
Being alive is beautiful, and sometimes we lose trace of just how special it is to be in this world, to experience the wonders, the grace and the glory of all that this life offers.
I want mine to be inspiring and courageous and worthy. I want to be able to do things – small and big – with love, attention and kindness. I have truly learned that it does not matter what I own or acquire that is important, what really is… is how I felt inside and how I made others feel.
Somebody wise once said: ‘The real secret to getting things done is knowing what things need to be left undone’. Its true for all of life, every single second of it. Life is really all about choices and what you decide to do with your time here. Remember, at the end of our time, it is inevitable there will be things that will remain undone…
