SUPRIYA KUNWAR – UNAPOLOGETICALLY ME

by wowmagazine

Supriya Kunwar, the Founder & Managing Director of Gaas Baas Co & Supper Club is a successful woman entrepreneur. Supriya holds a strong interest in hospitality and the Supper Club is a Dim Sum and Disco House in Thamel that is a testimony to her creative approach to business. It serves the finest Dim Sum, hand crafted cocktails and 70’s Disco sub culture. Also to end up the best night’s sleep, there is Gaas Baas Co which is an affordable luxury hotel right in the centre of Themel, below Supper Club.

WOW’s Anushka Shrestha caught up with the entrepreneur to learn what makes her life beautiful.

What are you currently busy with
January is jam-packed with events and refurbishment. Simultaneously, I am also invested in self growth and planning a quick getaway.

What do you love about your work
What’s there not to love. It is fun, it’s a series of constant hard work and it pays well. It is a bit glam but also needs a whole lot of strength to go beyond one’s comfort zone and tests your risk-taking ability.

What makes a person beautiful
Just be yourself and embrace your true identity. You do not have to be somebody you are not. We are all beautiful in our own ways.

Best thing about being you
At work, I am very communicative and I like to carry out group discussions so that we always end up with the best idea. Teamwork and communication are two things I swear by, be it life partnership or at work, and probably this has to be my best trait.

Also, I try to live life with an easy approach. If someone is criticising me or my work on a personal level for example, I try to take it with a grain of salt because that is just an opinion. I never take it as a fact because nothing is.

What makes you beautiful
I am a big at heart person. Even though I hardly speak about it, I am grateful for the loved ones I have around.

What tickles your funny bones
A random humour meme sliding in my DM from a friend perhaps…

Favourite comedian
YouTube comedian Anwar Jibawi for the quality of production and content he puts up. It only gets better.

Therapy for happiness
A quick tropical vacation, experiencing food diversity of the destination I am in and a good spa. I thrive in the sun and water. These two elements combined makes me the happiest.

Current perfume
Mon Guerlain by the great classic French fragrance house, Guerlain. It smells like the strong and free-spirited woman that I am.

You are addicted to
Binge snacking at night. Finally got rid of it and I hope it never returns.

On your wish list
Learn piano, lawn tennis, real estate investments, join a distiller course.

You stay fit by
I try to walk and take stairs whenever possible. I practice light yoga and recently have started running. I also watch my nett carb intake.

Best year of your life
2014 New Years with by best pals in Goa. We were granted a second life. We got caught up in larger-than-life current in the wilds of the Arabian sea while swimming in the deep but we managed to save ourselves and would not let each other die. We had been blessed with a second life.

Guilty Pleasure
Leather corsets and psycho thrillers

Skincare
Youth To The People, No7, Skinceuticals. Just got my hands on Nepali skin care brand ‘Peachy Tonics’. Would shop again from them.

Gadget
I carry Samsung Galaxy S22 ultra in Burgundy. The phone is very convenient for working.

Style Icons
I wear what I like. I like the fits of 60s & 70s mostly.

Always in your handbag
Pen, lipstick, business card

What do you do to unwind
I love to cook as a form of meditation. It helps me focus and calm down.

Favourite holiday destination
Serengeti in Tanzania for wildlife.  One can actually see the ‘game’ if luck is with you. We got to encounter a whole pride of lions with the cubs blocking our Safari Gypsy. It was a sight for sore eyes.
Burgundy in France for exceptional variety of wines such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. It is also the birth place of Dijon mustard that everyone loves.
Mauritius for crystal clear turquoise water.

You always struggle with
Probably waking up super early as a habit when I don’t have to. In this business, we are night owls.

Make up… can’t do without
A nude lipstick if I really have to

Favourite makeup brand
Charlotte Tilbury

Three things you absolutely do to look your best
Smell good, dress up good, wear a made-up smile

On a bad hair day
Sleek buns save the day

What do you like doing in your spare time
I do a bit of researching here and there about just anything.

Books or movies
Movies and books have different ways of providing a story. I would choose movies solely because it saves time.

Favourite place to eat in Kathmandu
My mom’s cooking.

One thing you can’t do without
A chapstick

What advice would you give to your younger self
I have experienced all things wild and crazy during my ‘cool kid’ era – teen years – and I am glad I have tasted it all. Now, I don’t have to worry about dragging myself down the rabbit hole of darkness during the peak of my career. I would thank myself instead for the person I have become.

Celebrity crush
Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin and David Bowie

Have you ever been told to change something about yourself
I am unapologetically me. Can’t change that after 30 years of living. I try to work on my flaws, self-growth, and asking me to ‘change’ is the worst you could do unless you are my parent.

A quote you live by…
“Sometimes what you want is right in front of you. All you have to do is open your eyes and see it”.
“You only live once. Life is no Nintendo game”.
“Karma is a b****”

Lockdown lesson
You never know what’s coming ahead of you so savour each moment and be grateful for what you have. Also, this too shall pass no matter how hard it
becomes.
