Breast cancer has been the most common type of cancer afflicting many women worldwide. It is very important for anyone to know about this disease because cancer can be fatal but with proper knowledge and awareness, you can always reduce the risk. Any disease causes not only physical damage but also drains one emotionally.

Early detection of cancer is very important and the main thing is to spread awareness about it and have the knowledge to detect it with appropriate screening methods in the form of monthly self-breast examination. Here any male can play a vital role with enough knowledge and awareness about breast cancer and its fatality.
Physical support as well as emotional support is very much needed in any medical treatment. As my family has been through this situation few years back when my sister got detected with breast cancer. I know how traumatising it can be especially for the patient. And all we can do is support the patient emotionally by motivating them to be strong to fight the cancer.

My brother in law is the one who took really good care of her from her diet to regular follow ups with the doctor and supporting her in every possible way. Males definitely should be aware of breast cancer and its early detection.

The main role of men in reducing the breast cancer menace is to be with their partner throughout and provide emotional support. Some of the key points could be communicating from the very start and throughout the entire experience, listening to her and giving the space to react and reflect, learning the necessary skills and managing the logistics of treatment.

Breast cancer continues to be the most common type of cancer afflicting many women worldwide. Presently educational campaigns and research target only women as if men have no role in the management of this disease. Breast cancer does not only affect women but also spouses of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer go through significant distress (financially and emotionally) sometimes exceeding that of the woman. Therefore there is a dire need to include men in breast cancer education campaigns which currently is directed towards females.

The education campaign should include training on awareness, early detection, screening and especially providing skills on partners’ breast examination, to detect lumps in their partners’ breasts as breast cancers. The use of mass media for the dissemination of information on breast cancer should be encouraged. Also, interactive breast examination skills training can be organised at work places, health camps as well as in places of worship using the services of knowledgeable health professionals. Since one percent of breast cancer occurs in male, these type of awareness on breast cancer in males will also be handy for those males who might be affected by this disease in their lifetime.

Men should learn about possible causes of breast cancer and keep their closed ones aware. We should also encourage our family members and partners to go for regular screening. Men should know that this is a disease which can happen to anyone and should support their partners psychologically. Other than that, I think all cancer types should be taken seriously and the medical system should make it affordable to have regular screenings for every citizen in the country. Carcinogenic food awareness should also be spread.

First and foremost to help with anything, one needs knowledge and information. Breast cancer can be deemed a women’s issue and thus many men don’t pay much attention but making a small effort can help reduce this menace. From awareness to detection to stigma management and counselling to seeking treatment, men can help at all levels. Getting your partner to get a check up, talking about it and reducing the stigma and pressure around the subject and encouraging her to be open about problems or anxieties can really help women detect symptoms early, if any.

Breast cancer is a menace that can affect both males and females. It seems the awareness about breast cancer is less in male partners which can contribute to lower support for female partners in seeking early medical care. Men should be more open to discussing female health issues and be an active part of the screening processes so that early asymptomatic and curable stage diseases are identified.

Awareness of any disease is the key to eradicating and controlling it. It can be cured with proper care. Besides it is very essential that we take or encourage the female members in our families to go for routine checkups as women’s bodies are comparatively complicated. The other best thing we can do is to provide mental and emotional support if such case occurs.
