Q. I am in my early 40s. I have dry skin and struggle with chapped lips. How do I care for my winter lips?

Reena Sherchan
A. Apply a non-irritating good quality lip balm (or lip moisturiser) several times a day. To keep your lips protected, you have to reapply several times through the day. Stash a tube in your handbag, car, work desk and bedside table to make things easier. For the outdoors, slather on a non-irritating lip balm with SPF 30 or higher. If your lips are very dry and cracked, try a thick ointment such as white petroleum jelly at night. Ointment seals in water longer than waxes or oils.
Use a humidifier indoors, don’t lick your lips, don’t peel or bite flaky skin, and don’t exfoliate as it can cause further damage when you have chapped lips. Also don’t forget to drink tons of water.
