FALL FOR FASHION

by wowmagazine

WOW brings you trends that are taking the fashion world by storm this season.

Playful Pleats

Meet an incredibly easy way to infuse a posh, Parisian feel to your look. No more a totem for matronly things, the newly-minted pleats boast a more refined plissé or crinkled effect, and add elegance and texture to the plainest picks. While pieces with low décolletages have been on the forefront, you can choose other idiosyncratic elements like asymmetrical hemlines or deconstructed silhouettes. And don’t forget to top it all up with some fun accessories.

Knit Picking

And knit this year means chunky pointelles and large-ish eyelets. Casually pulled over a slip or a camisole, or worn souped-up by itself, you can snuggle with this one how you want. Pop colours and good company of striking accessories should leave you wanting on no front.

Printed Prettiness

The buta motif has travelled far and wide since its origin in Iran (then Persia around 221 AD!). Detected on the fashion radar around the 18th century, paisley prints continue to make their presence felt. Once a symbol of bohemia and psychedelia, the 2020 version comes packed with a high fashion update: splattered on scarf tops and swirly dresses, tailored trousers, edgy accessories and more evoking an exotic past but with a modern glow-up.

Leather Affair

Buttery-soft and sumptuous, leather this season has transcended the summer-winter discrimination to enter the hallowed hallways of evergreen-ism. And it demands to be worn head-to-toe! Keep the rest of the look muted to avoid getting overwhelmed. Opt for faux, vegan options for a #KindnessForTheWin fashion outing.

Extra Large for Your Pleasure

Towering on the runways for their gigantic sizes, this season’s accessories seem to have made a rather convincing case for ‘go big or go home’. (But stay home for now, okay?) From sunglasses that generously cover the entire face, to bags that you can literally carry your whole world in, it’s all about lofty accompaniments at the moment… to match the lofty goals you’ve set for yourself!

Corsetry Saucery

Ladies of the French court wore it as an undergarment in 1500s. Sophia Loren famously wore it in The Millionairess in 1960. And then Madonna put in on the global map with her iconic Jean-Paul Gaultier number in 1990. The corset has caught the fancy of A-listers and designers yet again. From traditional boning to more avant-garde bodices, worn loose or over structured pieces, they are primed as legit outerwear, and offer choices from casual to dressy!

Usher in a New-Old Era

Immortalising a bit of the 70s is the disco collar—flat-ish with wide, angular tips. Adapted on shirts, jackets and even dresses, they deserve to be shown off! So flaunt in lively/contrasting colours and let them hang out loose…just sitting there pretty and still getting all the attention.
