In our society everyone judges everyone on the basis of what they wear. Men do make a moral judgement but so do women. In a patriarchal society like ours, women are demoralised and femininity is questioned but according to me it’s everyone in general who daunts the character of another person on the basis of what they are wearing in different contexts. Society puts a lot of restrictions on what someone should look like, and it has affected the way one gender perceives another.

This cannot be generalised between all men and all women. “Moral” is also a subjective term. Do men judge for looks, class, wealth? Clothing and styling certainly creates perception, no doubt, but how one treats another human being is a matter of character rather than perception. If we just survey most of the rape cases, women were fully-clothed with shawls covering their head and kurtas covering their body. Yet, they were victims of such crimes. Therefore, I firmly believe it is a matter of character than perception, personal than general.

It depends entirely on the individual in question, and there is no collective answer. Some men do tend to make judgments on what a woman wears. Their perspectives are influenced by several factors like their level of education, exposure, upbringing, societal norms, and peer circle. I believe that choice of attire is an irrational way to determine somebody’s character. Different people have different styles and tastes. Everyone has the right to expression, men and women alike.

It differs according to every man’s upbringing and his belief especially in a conservative but rapidly transforming society like ours where morals are dictated by society. There are men who do and there are men who don’t as well. But to be precise, I would say majority of men would not make a moral judgement about women based on what they wear because our transformed society is not oppressive or sexist. Her outfit is not the only factor that defines her. There is more to her than what she wears!
Majority of today’s men don’t even bother to realise what women wear. In today’s fast pace, both men and women have whole lot of things to worry about than just being judgmental about each other’s appearances. Every woman expresses her personality or appearance by her outfit as per the time, occasion or place, and this is just normal. Let her wear what she wants, who are we to judge? To all the woman out there, I say, just wear what makes you comfy and happy and stop worrying about other’s opinion.
