A NEW APPROACH TO LUXURY: HYATT PLACE KATHMANDU

by wowmagazine

Located at Tahachal, three kms from Swoyambhunath, the second Hyatt hotel, Hyatt Place Kathmandu was opened in November last year. It is the newest five-star hotel in the city. The new Hyatt is targeting younger customers by providing a casual atmosphere which is blended well with hotel staff in semi-formal or casual attire.

As soon as you enter the lobby, you are welcomed to a traditional yet modern theme. A warm classy ambience with carved wooden ceilings inspired by traditional Newari windows called AankhiJhyalcatch the eye. According to the hotel, the lobby is inspired by the Kathmandu valley and it represents a piece of the capital city. This theme is reflected around the hotel in the various arts and pictures.

To make things interesting, to the right of the entrance you will see a small marketplace which is open 24/7 where you can find pet items, souvenirs, snacks, beverages and bakeries. The hotel also claims to be the only pet friendly hotel in the city. You will also find ‘The Bar’to the left. As the hotel is targeting young business travellers, there is also designated working area in the lobby with necessary connectivity ports. The restaurant and rooms are also equipped with such ports.

There are three types of rooms to choose from – suite, standard and standard with terrace. After getting checked-in, we were taken to our standard room on the ninth floor from where we can clearly see the Swoyambhunath stupa. The room is one of the biggest and the neat layout and the big window glass made it feel just right. It was well furnished and equipped with all necessary amenities. The 55-inch television can be swivel around and also can be used as a working screen. The sofa in the room can also be transformed into a bed. The aesthetically pleasing art reflecting the Nepali culture was carried on to the room as well.

There is a well-equipped gym, outdoor swimming pool with a Jacuzzi with the pool located on the first floor right besides the Zing Sky Bar & Lounge. The lounge has a very relaxing atmosphere with good music and the area looks spectacular during sunset. The bar offers curated cocktails to go with its sumptuous hors d’oeuvres. To promote the lounge during the golden hour, there is a limited menu from 4pm to 7pm in which everything is available for just Rs.299.

The Zing World of Flavours restaurant is located right next to the lobby area. It has an open kitchen and alfresco seating where they will soon be opening a shisha bar. On the menu, you will be spoilt for choice with offerings ofWestern, Continental, Italian andAsian cuisine. According to the chef, the menu caters to the taste of a younger generation and the young at heart. For dinner, we ordered the Chef’s Special Belvedere Prawns, Nanza and Salmon Fillet Pan Fried, all of which was delectably prepared and presented.

After a rested sleep, the next morning our buffet breakfast was at the Zing restaurant. From an assortment of bakeries to Indian, Nepali and Western items and the standard offer of cereals, fresh juices and salad, the meal to start the day was fresh and fulfilling.

If you are travelling to Kathmandu or live in the city but just love a hotel break, Hyatt Place Kathmandu is well recommended not just for the luxury that it has to offer but also the warm hospitability of the super friendly staffs.
